The Empire Strikes Back

A beautiful day saw 26 members of Kilgetty Golf Society make the 70 mile journey towards Brecon to play Cradoc golf course, the game being kindly sponsored by Olivers Entertainments. It was well worth the trip as the course was in superb condition, unlike the past occasions I have played there out of season.

Teams were six threesomes and two four balls. First away were Barry Chippy Wood, John Dynamo Richards, and Paul Goodbye Marsden. Chippy, having played the course before, managed 28pts but his partners had 24 and 21 respectively. Next off were Simon Swan Davies, Roger Analyst Handcock, and John Spindles Hargrave. The Swan nosedived to 21pts against his companions 28pts. Third trio was Darrell Smoothie Jones, Kelvin Blinds Boughey, and Steve Gizmo Jones. Smoothie was on form and despite his low handicap made 32 pts, whilst the other two only reached mid-twenties. They were followed by Trevor Santa Lewis, Derek Wishy Washy Jones, and John Pashmina Perrott. Both Santa and Pashmina had good rounds with Santa taking the lead with 34 pts and Pashmina 28pts, the buggy getting him round the arduous course. A threesome of Wyn Nomad Hopkins, Graham Victor Longster, and John Scribe James followed. Victor had some bad luck, someone else played his ball on the 7th (I do not believe it) and  a pond swallowed his ball on the 9th , but despite this and leaving a lot of putts short still managed 29pts. The others struggled to 24pts apiece. Last of the threesomes were Roger Doombar Woodward, Martin FCUK Davies, and Pat Postman Casement .  Not too many expletives from FCUK as he drove to 32pts. His partners had to settle for 25pts each. The first foursome was Tommy Tiger Woods, John Empire Williams, Wynne Andicap Richards, and Stuart DelBoy Evans. Flutter breezed to a par round putting him in pole position, followed by  Andicap on 30 pts. DelBoy joined the many who managed 24 pts, but Tiger’s bad knee put him in contention for the lowliest prize! Finally, the tail- enders took to the course – Keith Director Leverton, Barry Nippy Neale, Steve The Dragon Hellyn, and Dave Boy Green. With the first three in mid-twenties it was Boy who found the course to his liking and reached 32 pts.

After quenching ones thirst on a sun drenched terrace with spectacular views of the Beacons, we were served an excellent meal of steak and ale pie and fruit crumble but not after some laughs as The Scribe and Nomad, whose tongues were hanging out, were left to wait for their main course due to a mix up in the numbers eating.

The results of a fine day were:  1st John Williams 2nd Trevor Lewis 3rd Martin Davies;  Nearest the Pin on 3rd Barry Neale; Nearest the Pin on 12th Darrell Jones; Longest Drive: Steve Hellyn;  20 plus handicapper: Dave Green;  Team: Trevor Lewis, Derek Jones, and John Perrott; Twos: Darrell Jones; Wooden Spoon: Tommy Woods.

Thanks to everyone for coming and to our Sponsor for this match Olivers Entertainments.
