Priskilly - September 16

Rob Runs Riot

Following two dreadfully wet days Kilgetty Society players were mightily relieved to see the sun shining for our September meeting at Priskilly Forest Golf Club. Nearly all sported shorts of varying degrees of elegance and knees of a lesser standard!

After coffee and bacon rolls Tom Tiger Woods, Peter Peroni Hughes, and Rob The Builder Nixon teed off on the new blue tees, which, with the white tees on the back nine, provided more variation to the course. This group provided a stern test for those following by accumulating 93 points between them, with The Builder stacking up a great score of 40 including 2 blobs! Could the following groups match or exceed this? Well, next out were Keith Director Leverton, Steve Gizmo Jones, and Bob Dixie Forrest who were all off-form and could only manage 79 points. An extremely friendly group of Darrell Chalky Willington, Graham Victor Longster, and Wynne Andy Capp Richards managed a first for the Society by all three coming in with 28 points equally split 14 front and 14 back. Was this too much of a coincidence? Their cards were closely scrutinised and despite thinking the 4th hole was a par 5 (only for the ladies, lads) nothing was amiss. But with a total score of 84 the team prize escaped them. So could Wyn Off Again Hopkins, Nigel Scissors Taylor, and Kelvin Curtains Boughey rise to the occasion. Frankly, no. A miserable day for all three with less than half the leading score, and Scissors and Curtains vying for the wooden spoon! Last off were Barry Nippy Neale, Wayne Chopsy Connett, Mike Slippery Skidmore, and Allan Snuff Gawith. Barry unfortunately was not Nippy enough as he kept stepping on everyone’s putting line but despite the ribaldry he managed to retain his composure and score 34 points. Snuff also scored well with 31 but this group only totalled 76.5 points. The winning team was therefore Tiger, Peroni, and The Builder.

The individual winners were Rob The Builder with that magnificent 40 points and a 3 shot cut to his handicap. Second, 6 points behind, was Nippy, and a further 3 back Snuff.

Longest Drive went to Victor; Snuff came Nearest The Pin; Andy Capp won the 20+ handicap prize; and Scissors snipped the Wooden Spoon on the worst back 9 from Curtains who was greatly relieved as his kitchen is overflowing with wooden spoons.

Thanks to all at Priscilly for their hospitality and an excellent meal.
