MILFORD - November 2015

Forrest Clearing Out

Last Wednesday Kilgetty Golf Society held their November meeting at Milford Haven Golf Course. Well, we know Derek Brockway tries his hardest but, boy, did he get the weather forecast wrong for that day. With six members pulling out, as a band of wet weather was forecast to sweep into Pembrokeshire by 11am, we were left with 14 hardy souls who were prepared to battle the elements. What did we get? A little misty stuff blowing in for the first few holes, and then by magic it cleared up to our delight. Moral – never heed the forecast and get out there and enjoy the fresh air.

Taking full advantage of the conditions were Dave Smiler Green, Keith Director Leverton, and Steve Gizmo Jones in the first group. Smiler managed to rescue points on the Par 3’s despite losing his first ball on all of them. The highlight being the 4th where his first shot sailed into the rough on the left of the green. His reload ended up close to the hole and he duly putted in for a 4! The Director had a quieter round, perhaps he hadn’t switched his hearing aid on! Gizmo played poorly but to his surprise still managed 31 points. This group set the early pace with an overall 91 points.

Next off were John Dynamo Richards (still basking in his victory at Machynys last month); Peter Peroni Hughes (hoping to close the points gap on Wynne Andy Capp Richards who is leading the Race to Dubai – actually Trefloyne in January); and Trevor Santa Lewis (only there for the coffee and bacon roll). Dynamo did well to score 32 points after his 3 shot cut, whilst a relaxed Santa was not far behind. However, Peroni couldn’t make any inroads on Andy Capp’s lead with a score of 26 points.

Following them was Tom Tiger Woods making his first appearance for some time; Bob Dixie Forrest; Colin ASBO Davies; and the aforementioned Andy Capp. This was the stand out team with all four performing well, although Andy Capp could not extend his lead in the Race to Trefloyne (incidentally, the prize is awarded to the player who has the highest points total from his best 6 scores in the year). With Woods and Forrest in the same team it’s a wonder the other two couldn’t see the trees!

Finally, out came Darrell Chalky Willington; John Pashmina Perrott in his chariot (unfortunately it was not on fire on this occasion); Kelvin Captain Birdseye Boughey (nice hat Captain); and Rob The Builder Nixon. Unfortunately, Pashmina’s lack of spark, cost them the team prize despite sterling performances from the others. Take heed Pashmina – swing low, sweet chariot! Not that it did England much good in the Rugby World Cup!

So, after a shower (not provided by Derek Brockway) we congregated in the bar for some welcome refreshment, and heard about Andy Capp’s holiday next month to South Shields (strange place for a holiday until we realised he had really said Seychelles)!  After a pleasant buffet the results were announced by Gizmo as follows:

First     – 37 points Dixie Forrest

Second – 35 points Chalky Willington

Third    – 34 points Smiler Green

20+ Handicap – Dynamo Richards

Nearest the Pin – ASBO Davies

Longest Drive  - ASBO Davies

Wooden Spoon – Pashmina Perrott

Team – 97 pts Tiger Woods, Dixie Forrest, Andy Capp Richards, and ASBO Davies

There were no 2’s

For the second month running the raffle was won by an abominable member who drew their own ticket out!!!
