Kilgetty Golf Society
Kilgetty Golf Society

Our History

The Society was formed in 2003 over a glass or two of the amber nectar at the RAOB Club in Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire by Barry Wood and his son Mark. Barry & his wife Brenda had called in at Celtic Manor just to have a coffee and a nose and noticed that they were doing a fantastic winter deal. On returning home a father & son meeting was set up and after much discussion it was decided to get some guys together and have a nice day out at the Manor. After many phone calls we assembled 32 players who were very keen to play this great venue, so off we went to Newport in March 2003. So immense was the impact of this day that Kilgetty Golf Society was formed.
Our first meeting was at South Pembs Golf Club in September 2003, and since then we have not only played every course in Pembrokeshire, but spread our wings to as far afield as Worcester, Hereford, Gloucester, South, Mid and East and even North Wales.
In early 2013, after years of service to the cause, Mark and Barry Wood retired and a new Committee was formed led by Steve Jones, John Perrott, Wynne Richards, and Martin Davies. In 2023 John and Martin retired and Steve took a backseat. Wynne and new Treasurer Roger Handcock are currently the only permanent Committee members whilst fixtures are now hosted by individual members on an ad hoc basis. Currently we have over 110 people who receive our emails.
