Kilgetty Golf Society

Machynys -March 17

At the second attempt Kilgetty Golf Society managed to play the Nicklaus designed Machynys course in Llanelli last week. The first attempt was thwarted by a ban on electric buggies which would have meant that several of our members would not have been able to participate. However, the ban was lifted and 22 members hit the track on what seemed to be the first decent day for weeks. Having said that, perhaps hovercraft would have been a better mode of carrying our clubs than trolleys, due to the sodden condition of the course. Nevertheless there were some good (and bad scores) returned.

All off the first in 3 balls were Dave Smiler Green, Steve Gizmo Jones, John Flutter Williams; Mike Slippery Skidmore, Kelvin Curtains Boughey, Anthony Wiseguy Ryan; Joe Lofty Braithwaite, Ian Greenball Gregson, John Pierre Voysey; Roger Analyst Handcock, Perry Bonzo Phillips, John Hamster Hammond; Wynne Andy Capp Richards; Tom Tiger Woods, Colin ASBO Davies; Mike Big Box Allen, Allan Snuff Gawith, Paul Goodbye Marsden; followed by a 4 ball of Simon Seedy Millett, Peter Peroni Hughes, Bob Dixie Forrest, and Kevin Dyer Straits.

The forward splashing party of Smiler, Gizmo and Flutter amassed an excellent total of 94 points with Smiler in particular excelling on the par 3’s. Could this total be matched? Not by Slippery, Curtains and Wiseguy with only 65, although Wiseguy contributed most of these! Lofty, Greenball and Pierre, a new member, performed slightly better with 79. Despite appearing on the 6th tee when they should have been on the 4th and hastily retreating back the way they came, the Analyst, Bonzo and Hamster fell just short with 88. Next, were Andy Capp, Tiger and the mud splattered ASBO who could only equal the lowest score despite ASBO getting the only 2 of the day! Two groups left – much was expected of Big Box, Snuff and Goodbye. Sadly it was goodbye as they could only manage 4th with 78 points. So to the 4 ball – Seedy, Peroni, Dixie and Dire Straits. Unfortunately 75 was their total meaning Smiler, Gizmo and Flutter had the lead from beginning to end and won the Team prize.

Individual prizes were as follows:

1st  - Dave Smiler Green (Heron’s Brook)

2nd - Anthony Wiseguy Ryan (Unattached)

3rd  - Perry Bonzo Phillips (Heron’s Brook), also celebrating being a new dad, and winning Longest Drive

Nearest the Pin – Bob Dixie Forrest (Trefloyne)

20+ Handicap – Simon Seedy Millett (St. David’s City)

Thanks must go to John Pashmina Perrott, our Treasurer for travelling to Machynys to organise events and take our hard earned cash.
