Death on the Neath
At a venue proposed and set up by ex club member John Magneto Richards, and
with welcome sponsorship from Station Garage, Kilgetty
(Hyundai Dealers), the Society’s June outing was to
the highly rated Death (sorry Neath) Golf Club. On a
fine day we were royally looked after by all at the club; but sadly most of us, especially those playing off handicaps in the twenties, while doing justiceto the excellent food and beverages on offer, did not respond as they might have done to the well presented, scenic, mountainous and most tasking of
courses.
Of 19 of us participating, eight of us scored fewer that 20 Stableford
points
(with Roger Doombar Woodward taking the wooden spoon with only 10) and only
one
of us (Mike Big Box Allen) scoring over 30 points to waltz away the clear
winner
with 33 (and bag the longest drive prize as
well).
Magneto, first out with Martin FCUK Davies and Bob Dixie Forrest, used
local
knowledge to the best advantage to get his threesome home clear winners of
the
team prize, and take for himself the prize for the best 20+ handicap player
to
boot. Barry Chippy Wood, Dave Boy Green and Roger Analyst Handcock
followed,
playing steadily, whilst immediately behind them Wyn Nomad Hopkins and Glyn
Semi
Colon Jones could only watch in awe as Big Box gave us all a lesson in
fault
free golf, with not a pointless hole on his card (none of the rest of us
managed
this). Next up, Steve Gizmo Jones and John Flutter Williams, scoring
moderately
well, were held back by Doombar, whilst behind them modest performances
indeed
from John Pashmina Perrott and Paul Goodvalue Marsden were made to
look
reasonable by Rob The Builder Nixon’s effort to join Doombar on the bottom
slot,
missing the spoon by just one point. Bringing up the rear, Colin ASBO and
Simon
The Swan Davies between them could not put off Peter Peroni Hughes and Simon
3
Piece Sweet enough to deter Peroni (who also won nearest the pin) and 3
Piece
from most credible efforts to win second and third slots respectively. A
super
day.
