Kilgetty Golf Society

The January meeting of the Society saw the keen eighteen stalwarts tackle the
greens and roughs of the South Pembs Golf Club. Their task was made more of a
challenge by the arrival of rain, fortunately without the recent gales. First
off were Tom Timber Wood, Steve Gizmo Jones and Keith Director Leverton. Timber
started well but failed to reach double figures on the back nine and ended on
25pts. Gizmo was steady throughout for a modest 25pts whilst the Director had a
disasterous last nine only making 22pts. Next away were Martin Trucker Evans,
Martin FCUK Davies and Barry Chippy Wood. Trucker found the course daunting,
falling short of double figures on both halves, a possible for the wooden spoon!
FCUK cursed his luck with the putter and finished on 23pts. Meanwhile the ever
steady Chippy chipped away to 30pts despite the rain! They were followed by Paul
Goodbuy Marsden, Barry Nippy Neale and Mark Skids Brindley. Goodbuy had one of
those days that is better forgotten about, nothing went right for him and
another piece of wood could be heading his way. Nippy had a steady round for
28pts, similarly Skids had even halves for 26pts. Fourth trio off were Roger
Analyst Handcock, Peter Bandit Hughes and Anthony Wiseguy Ryan. The Analyst
looked to be heading for a useful score after nine holes but then the wheels
fell off and he failed to reach double figures on the last nine. The Bandit had
a good round so his handicap could be in danger of a cut. Wiseguy was also doing
well but a few wild shots left him on 27pts. Next to face the elements, Simon
Swan Davies, Kelvin Blinds Boughey and Mike Maureen Allen. Playing on his home
course, Simon showed how it can be played, romping home with 34pts. Blinds and
Maureen struggled to keep up with Simon but could only manage 23 and 25pts
respectively. Last off were Roger DoomBar Woodward, Dave Boy Green and Shaun
Chatterbox Taylor. All three had reasonable games, Chatterbox leading with
32pts, the Boy on 28 and Doombar 27pts. After an excellent meal the presentation
began; in first place with 34pts and winning a bottle of whiskey was Simon Swan
Davies ; second on 32pts, Shaun Chatterbox Taylor; with a better back nine,
third place went to Peter Bandit Hughes. Barry Wood won Nearest The Pin, Shaun
Taylor - Longest Drive, and Dave Green 20+ handicap prizes. Team prize went to
Dave Green, Roger Woodward, and Shaun Taylor. The wooden spoon went once again
to Paul Marsden. Thanks to all who participated.
