Kilgetty Golf Society

The Grove - April 16

April’s Kilgetty Society’s meeting was held at The Grove Golf Club near Porthcawl which necessitated 27 golfers negotiating the choked artery which is the M4, rendered even slower by an accident near Port Talbot. On top of this our St. David’s contingent followed their Sat Nav which took them through the myriad delights of Britton Ferry and Baglan!

Nevertheless, we enjoyed a fantastic day of golf and repartee. Of course, some had better experiences on the fairways and greens than others. Special mention must go to the 9 myopic members who managed to mistake the 17th tee for the 2nd and thus merrily got lost! But it was good for the Society’s kitty which benefited to the tune of a £2 fine each.

Nine groups of 3 went off with our American semi-pro Mike Big Box Allen leading the way with Allan Snuff Gawith and Roger Analyst Handcock. Snuff excelled himself and dragged his group to a reasonable 83 points. Rob The Builder Nixon, Wynne Andy Capp Richards, and Dave Smiler Green followed with a disappointing 73. Next, Barry Chippy Wood and Wyn Where am I Hopkins in a buggy-mobile were easily led astray by Wayne Screw Connett who has previous form. They totalled 79. The motley crew of Darrell Chalky Willington, Kelvin Curtains Boughey, and John Pork Pie Drury accumulated 71 points with Curtains vying for an individual title – I think we all know which one! Steve Gizmo Jones, Barry Nippy Neale, and Phil Rolling Stone Smith did remarkably well with 84 points despite Rolling Stone’s lack of play during this wet winter. Paul GoodValue Marsden, John Knocker James, and Simon Seedy Millett failed to trouble the team scoreboard with 73, the same score as Ian Greenball Gregson, Colin ASBO Davies, and John Silver Haired Hughes. Not only did the latter group get the same score but they also followed them up the wrong hole! Trevor Santa Lewis, John Dynamo Richards, and Bob Dixie Forrest managed to find the correct 2nd hole and zoomed to 87 points which was unmatched by the last group of Peter Peroni Hughes, Roger Doombar Woodward and John Cafetiere Perrott with 74 who were probably dreaming more of their respective refreshments than the golf!

So after a beverage on the sunny balcony of the clubhouse (what a difference a month makes to the weather) the assembled had a hearty meal followed by a free raffle and the presentation of prizes which went as follows:

1st  - Allan Snuff Gawith 37pts

2nd – Barry Nippy Neale  35pts

3rd – Bob Dixie Forrest 33pts

20+ handicap – Trevor Santa Lewis 32pts

Nearest Pin – Rob The Builder Nixon

Longest Drive – Colin ASBO Davies

Wooden Spoon – Kelvin Curtains Boughey

Team – Santa, Dynamo, and Dixie

Thanks to all for coming – it was an excellent turnout.
