Derllys Court - May 14

Keith KO’s Kilgetty

What a difference that big bright thing in the sky makes to a round of golf, no wet weather gear just shirt sleeves and shorts. Twenty three of us enjoyed a grand day on the course at Derllys Court, Banc y Felin, maybe some more than others! Sponsors for the day were Station Garage, Kilgetty, Hyundai dealers. A warm welcome went to two new recruits, Colin Silver Fox Jenkins and Steve The Dragon Hellyn, hope you have enjoyed enough to attend many more events. Due to work on the course, play commenced at the tenth tee. Leading off were Peter Bandit Hughes, Barry Theodolite Neale and Barry Chippy Wood. This turned out to be a formidable combination, setting an opening target of 97pts, both Barry’s had a good round, 34 and 35pts. The Bandit was struggling on the initial nine with only ten points but lived up to his nickname on the latter nine scoring 18pts. Next to the tee were Wynne Handicap Richards, Steve Gizmo Jones and Mike Maureen Allen. What a group, out-playing the previous trio by three points with a century grand total. All were over 32 points with Gismo best on 35pts. Following them were Craig The Foreigner Susdorf, Colin Silver Fox Jenkins and  Roger Analyst Handcock. Each was below par, Analyst just failed to reach thirty and the others were on 24 and 27 respectively. Another trio took to the tee, Mike Spikey Beynon, Kelvin Blinds Boughey and Roger DoomBar Woodward. Spikey took a while to settle down, only seven points for the first nine but went up five on the home strait for a 19 total and a possible wooden spoon zone. Next away were Mark Woody Wood, Steve The Dragon Hellyn and Simon Swan Davies. Woody started well, twelve points after five holes but only two on the next four. His partners did not set the course alight, both finishing on 26pts. The first fourball then took to the fairways, Keith Director Leverton, John Pashmina Perrott, John Spindles Hargrave and John Ileostomy James. The Director was striking the ball well and quietly built up the points, reaching par on the first nine and going one over for the last nine putting him in first place so far. Spindles passed the thirty mark and the other two John’s had 22 and 24. At last the final foursome took off, Dave Boy Green, Steve Eleanor Rigby, Gareth Gaffer Gwyther and John Flutter Williams. A steady round for all, with Boy in front on 35pts, Gaffer on 30 and the other two on 28. Three blobs by the Boy lost him a winning score, two of the blobs involved water!

After a very pleasant meal it was over to Steve to present the prizes. The Director’s 37pts was enough to secure him the first prize together with a cut of three strokes to his handicap, well played Keith. There were four 35 pointers and on countback the second and third places went to Gizmo Jones and Chippy Wood. The player nearest the pin was Spikey Beynon and the longest drive was the domain of Mike Maureen Allen. 20 plus handicap winner was the Boy Green. The only two went to the Silver Fox. Team winners were Handicap, Gizmo, and Maureen. The last “prize”, the Wooden Spoon, went to Spikey Beynon.
